Rescue team expands the search area in Bali
The national rescue team will extend the area to search for the wrecked ship to the east towards immigrants Nusa West Bali and Tenggara.
“The search was extended to Bali and NTB,” said Head of the National Disaster Information Management and Data Center, Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, Friday, December 23, 2011.
The ship which includes Middle Eastern illegal immigrants sank on December 17, 2011, bringing more than 200 immigrants going to Christmas Island, Australia. The ship was to contact the base after being hit by large waves in Prigi.
So far, 49 survivors were found in the waters of East Java. 90 victims were found dead. Out of 90 victims, 74 in the waters of East Java and 16 was found in the waters of Bali.
Besides promoting the Trenggalek Sar work, the rescue team has built another post Jember, East Java.
“The search effort will continue until December 24,” he said.
Four TNI personnel were questioned and kept. They believed that he had taken part in the tragic event.
